Eating Right

From the time I have been diagnosed with Type II diabetes, I have started eating healthy. I switched from white rice to brown rice and when i got pregnant, i started counting my calories.

My son is 7 months now but I have stopped counting calories and indulging myself in sweets, snacks and all bad things. The reason why is because, I had stopped eating all those when I was pregnant that I feel like eating it all the time. Snacking has become a habit.

So I have decided to start eating right again from today on.
Instead of snacks, I brought fruits to work. Strawberries, black berries, grapes, banana and orange.

Let us see how long this "Eating Right" thing works!!

A Nothing Day!

Good Morning all.

I have been wanting a sounding board past few weeks and I thought I will share my life with nobody and here I am coz I know no one reads my blog.

What's new about today? Nothing
What's different from anyother day? Apart from Kanu and lousy traffic, nothing else!

But when i got up in the morning, I felt it is a good day and it has been a good day even with lousy traffic.
Is it probably because I got to spend some time with my handsome young son in the morning which I never get to do
or
Is it because i washed my hair and I felt fresh from head to toe
or
Is it because I did eye makeup after a month break? I am sure it is the first reason or am I?

Yippeee! MY OCI card is ready to be shipped.

Today morning brought a smile to my face and I wanted to share the happiness with every one! Hope you all have a happy day just like me..................

Happy Maatu pongal every one!

Feast...

On new year's day, I made carrot halwa, chappathi and chole for lunch. The post is not going to be about that. It is going to be about the day after new year's. It is about January 2nd, the Saturday. I got up in the morning..yeah i did..actually i had to...coz i have to say thirupaavai. The morning seemed like any other morning and I just did not feel like cooking the routiene things and so i made vegetable pulao, raita and stuffed capsicum (Or stuffed pepper..however you want to call it..frankly I prefer capsicum coz it sounds good)..

Vegetable Pulao
Well I do not follow a fixed recipe..I use whatever my hand finds in the fridge and whatever i find in my kitchen shelf and it always turn out good. The tip for you would be not to hide in my fridge on pulao day. In any case, I will give the recipe of jan 2nd vegetable pulao that I made.

Ingredients -
Carrot - 1
Beans - few
Potato - 1
Capsicum - 1
Ginger - small qty
Cinnamon - 2 sticks
Cloves - 3
Jeera -  1 spoon
Green chillies - 2
Red chilly - 1 spoon
Turmeric - 1/2 spoon
Rice - 3/4 Cup
Ghee - 1 spoon

Method

1) Chop the vegetables into small pieces.
2) In the pressure cooker, add  a spoon of ghee and then add green chillies, jeera, cinnamon, cloves
3) Add the Vegetables, rice and water and after 3 whistles you are done.

Now the tricky part was to convince my husband that I have made stuffed capsicum before and I am an ace at that. Once that part was done, I started the preparation of making stuffed capsicum for the very first time. I selected four red capsicums and two orange capsicums.

OOPS I started writing this two years back (01/02/2011) and now i dont remember what I did!!
